Print Club London / Film 4 Summer Screen Prints Opening

I had an amazing mid week exhibit opening at Somerset House, a venue that in my opinion is pretty unmatched in central London in terms of beauty. I was invited by the talented bunch from Print Club London, for their annual Summer Screen Prints exhibition that keeps getting better! With a curated selection of limited edition screen printed film posters based on the line up of Film 4 open air cinema shows that start on Thursday.

It’s a great collaboration that started with a wow, on Wednesday night the doors opened at 6:00 with a line that stretched around the iconic court yard. Hundreds of people turned up to check out the offering from their favourite print club artist, movie addicts & art lovers mixed in with a complete cross section of the general London public. Print Club London is a known name and has a cult like following when it comes to the process of screen printing with a little black book of diverse artists from illustrators to typography experts, street artists to concept directors.

I spent the night weaving amongst the merry crowd periodically slipping behind the curtain to watch the hard working Printerns sort, roll & hand off prints as they were purchased while taking deep breaths of cool air the packed East Wing gallery lacked. Apart from the new and exclusive 17 limited edition prints just for the exhibition; Print Club brought a selection of archive poster prints, books, postcards and other arty goodies to make a pretty tempting shop.

However everyones first stop before the prints or the shop was the bar, obviously, and they had a choice between two to use their complimentary drink token. Both bars featured a statement cocktail with a base of Aperol with the very popular spritz in one and a mix of Peroni & an exotic dollop of sorbet in the other. Also circulating the room were two lovely ladies with packets of Propercorn in yummy flavours to stem any cases of the munchies.

So how to sum up the night, the perfect combination of affordable art & social gathering with plenty of interesting topics on people’s lips and it is only the beginning. The Film4 Summer Screen starts on Thursday with a few tickets still going spare if you haven’t already scored a seat & Print Clubs exhibition is open daily for the next two and a half weeks! Plenty of time to make a trip to Somerset House and soak up the impressive movie poster offering.

Can’t make it to location but dying for a Print Club Exclusive movie screen print? You can buy directly from the their online shop!
